Last night I was ‘made’ to watch episode two of Top Gear. Alastair Campbell was the ‘star in the reasonably priced car’, so at that point in the programme I looked up from my magazine.
A lot of the audience booed him. Love or hate the man (and I don’t really have an opinion either way as I’ve never met him) you have to admit he did some great public relations for Labour. As far as I understand it, he was central to turning around Labour’s fortunes and making Tony Blair popular.
It was evident that Clarkson really didn’t like the man and when he mentioned Gordon Brown’s smile it was obviously a clear case of PR failure. Just goes to support my view that not everything is PRable!
